Industrial Silencer FAQs

What information is required for silencer sizing?

Equipment type, operating medium, flow rate, pressure, temperature, connection size, allowable pressure drop or back pressure, target noise level, orientation and site conditions.


What is insertion loss?

Insertion loss is the sound reduction achieved after a silencer is installed in the system. It should be considered by frequency and at the relevant receiver location—not as a single number alone.


Can Phoenix supply custom industrial silencers?

Yes. Industrial silencers are commonly project-specific. Configuration, connection, material, support, acoustic requirement and fabrication details can be adapted to the application.


Vent Silencer FAQs

Why are pressure drop and back pressure important?

A silencer adds resistance to flow. Excessive resistance can affect process discharge, airflow, engine performance or safety-system operation, so the allowable limit must be confirmed.


What is the difference between a vent silencer and an exhaust silencer?

Vent silencers commonly address high-energy release from steam, gas, relief or blowdown events. Exhaust silencers address combustion exhaust from engines, generators, turbines, boilers or similar equipment.

Does Phoenix provide site noise measurement?

Phoenix focuses on engineered noise-control products. Site measurement or independent consultancy should be scoped separately; where appropriate, the enquiry may be connected to Novico Engineering within KSM Group.


Will an acoustic enclosure cause overheating?

It can if airflow and heat rejection are not designed properly. Acoustic louvres, ventilation silencers, forced ventilation and controlled air paths may be required.


Can acoustic enclosures be installed outdoors?

Yes, provided the enclosure is designed for rain, humidity, corrosion, drainage, structural support, wind exposure and maintenance access.


How much noise reduction can an enclosure achieve?

It depends on source level and frequency, enclosure construction, leakage, openings, penetrations, ventilation treatment and receiver location. A target should always state where it will be measured.
